Drunk Driver Fatally Struck Rider on 15 Freeway in Fallbrook
FALLBROOK, CA (August 17, 2019) – A motorcyclist was killed after struck by a drunk driver early Saturday morning in Fallbrook.
The crash happened around 4:30 a.m. on northbound 15 Freeway south of Mission Road, according to the CHP.
Officers said the victim was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound when a Hyundai Sonata, driven by a 24-year-old man, approached him from behind at a faster speed.
The Sonata struck the motorcycle, knocking the rider to the ground and ran him over, officers said.
As a result, the unidentified rider died at the scene.
Officers evaluated the Hyundai driver at the scene, then arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The suspect was booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
Officers issued a traffic alert in the area, closing all northbound lanes of 15 Freeway while they investigated the incident.
