Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Highway 9 in Saratoga
SARATOGA, CA (January 18, 2020) – A motorcyclist was killed in a traffic accident Saturday afternoon in Saratoga, according to police.
The crash happened around 4:13 p.m. on Highway 9 at Heather Heights Road.
Police said a motorcycle was heading north on the winding highway when it drifted over the center line in a sharp right curve near the intersection of Heather Heights Road. It then collided with the driver’s side of a Honda sedan that was traveling south.
The motorcycle then struck the driver’s side of a red Toyota pickup truck that was also traveling south behind the Honda.
The impact ejected the rider from his bike. He was ran over by the rear wheels of the pickup, police said.
Arriving units treated the rider at the scene, but he succumbed to his injuries. The Santa Clara County coroner did not release the identity of the deceased pending family notification.
At the time of the crash, the motorcycle was traveling at about 45 mph, even though a 20 mph advisory sign was posted on the curve.
Police closed Highway 9 for more than two hours while they investigated the incident.
