Deadly Crash Involving Motorcycle and Several Cars on 80 Freeway in Richmond
RICHMOND, CA (October 6, 2019) – A motorcyclist was killed in a traffic collision Sunday morning on 80 Freeway in Richmond, authorities said.
The fatal collision happened around 11:39 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the freeway at Carlson Boulevard.
According an initial report by the CHP, a Harley-Davison motorcycle was splitting lanes at approximately 70 mph when vehicles ahead began braking hard while approaching a slight roadway curve.
When the brakes on the motorcycle apparently locked up, the rider veered to the right and side-swiped a Nissan Armada in the second lane of the freeway. The motorcycle and rider then went left, hitting the passenger side mirror of a Toyota Prius in the first lane.
Veering right again, the rider struck a Nissan Rogue before falling left and hitting a Mercedes sedan’s right rear side.
The rider landed between lanes, with the Harley coming to rest in the second lane.
Paramedics arrived and pronounced the rider dead at the scene. His identity was not immediately available.
Three of the freeway’s four lanes were blocked while officers investigated the incident. All lanes reopened just after 1:40 p.m.
