Fatal Motorcycle Crash on 5 Freeway in Elk Grove
ELK GROVE, CA (November 2, 2019) – A motorcyclist was killed following a traffic collision Saturday afternoon in Elk Grove, CHP officials said.
The collision happened around 2:30 p.m. on 5 Freeway, just between Elk Grove Boulevard and Laguna Boulevard.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling north on 5 Freeway when a Dodge pickup truck ahead began to brake for slower traffic.
The motorcycle crashed into the back of the Dodge, ejecting the rider. The rear tires of a big rig trailer then struck the rider, killing him upon impact.
Authorities only identified the victim as a 63-year-old Lodi man. His name has not yet been released pending next of kin notification.
After the crash, the driver of the Dodge pulled over and spoke to authorities while the driver of the big rig continued on without stopping, according to officials. Officials said it is possible the big rig driver was not aware of the crash.
What caused the rider to first crash into the Dodge is still under investigation and officials said it is not known whether alcohol or drugs may have been a factor.
