Fatal Motorcycle Crash VS Truck on E Cypress Avenue in Redding Leaves One Dead
Redding, CA (June 24, 2021) – Thursday afternoon, a 66-year-old motorcycle rider from Redding died after a crash with a Penske truck on E Cypress Avenue.
The fatal crash in Redding happened at around 2:02 p.m. on June 24.
The Redding Police Department said the Penske truck was traveling westbound on Cypress, west of Bechelli, in the number one lane. The motorcycle was also traveling westbound on Cypress, behind the truck.
Then the motorcyclist tried passing the truck in the center turn lane as the truck made a left turn into Redding Subaru.
Moreover, the motorcycle then struck the driver’s side of the truck and became trapped under it. The truck continued driving into the parking lot, dragged the motorcycle which then caught fire.
EMS took the rider into the hospital with critical injuries but later died.
Meanwhile, investigators discovered several commercial transportation violations on the Penske truck. They also found over 900 catalytic converters inside.
RPD detectives have taken over the investigation into the catalytic converters.
