56-Year-Old San Jose Man Fatally Injured in Motorcycle Crash near Molera Road
CASTROVILLE, CA (August 5, 2018) – A San Jose rider lost his life Sunday afternoon after his motorcycle collided with an SUV on Highway 1.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at about 1:30 PM, near Molera Road. A 1999 GMC Suburban, driven by 27-year-old Salinas resident Noemi Sanchez, slowed down to make a left turn. As Sanchez began to turn left, a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle attempted to pass the SUV on the left. The rider moved right to avoid the GMC but struck the rear side of the vehicle.
The 56-year-old motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by responding officers. His name was not immediately released. Meanwhile, Sanchez, an adult passenger, and four juveniles did not sustain injuries as a result of the collision.
Investigators noted that the rider was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the incident. Alcohol and drugs were ruled out as possible contributing factors in the deadly crash, which remains under investigation. No additional information has been disclosed to the public at this time.
