Man Fatally Injured after Motorcycle Accident near West D Street

 
ENCINITAS, CA (June 24, 2018) – A man was killed late Sunday morning after his motorcycle rear-ended a sheriff’s patrol car on South Coast Highway 101.
 
The collision took place at about 11:30 AM near West D Street. A patrol car, driven by an on-duty deputy, was heading south on Highway 101 when it began to make a left turn and entered the path of a motorcycle. Witnesses claimed that the rider was traveling at a high rate of speed when he slammed into the rear of the vehicle.
 
The deputy involved and a bystander rushed to pull out the motorcyclist and began to perform CPR while waiting for an ambulance. Unfortunately, the unidentified rider succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
There were no immediate updates regarding the motorcyclist’s estimated traveling speed and whether the deputy was responding to an emergency, or had activated the car’s lights and sirens. Identities of the parties involved were not immediately released to the public.
