1 Fatally Injured in Motorcycle Accident near Mercer Street
SEATTLE, WA (March 15, 2019) – An unidentified motorcyclist died in a collision on 5 Freeway, early Thursday morning in Seattle.
Dispatchers received calls in the area just before 5:30 a.m. Officials arrived to the scene in the northbound lanes soon after.
Trooper Rick Johnson said a 52-year-old motorcyclist rode at high speeds while veering through the left lanes of the highway. The rider eventually struck the barrier for unknown reasons.
Due to the impact of the crash, the rider was suffering from life-threatening injuries upon paramedics arrival. He later succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead on scene.
Authorities shut down three northbound lanes during the investigation as a result of the collision. Crews were working to clean and finalize preliminary duties, but they have since reopened the surrounding lanes.
At 8:00 a.m., the stalled traffic stretched for more than seven miles. Authorities reopened all lanes, and vehicles were able to travel on the highway again by 8:15 a.m. However, traffic stays delayed for some time.
