Rider Fatally Injured in Carlsbad Car Accident on 5 Freeway
CARLSBAD, CA (September 12, 2019) — A 19-year-old male motorcyclist died after a car accident on 5 Freeway on Wednesday, September 11.
Just before 6:50 a.m., the man, a resident of South Carolina, rode a BMW motorcycle on the 5 Freeway southbound on-ramp from Vista Way. Then for unknown reasons, he lost control and the impact ejected him from the bike, California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Smale said.
The rider was ejected to the pavement. He then continued to slide on the road until he was near Las Flores Drive where a Ford F-150 struck him. The pickup was driven by a 42-year-old woman from Oceanside. She immediately came to a stop after the incident, said Smale.
Paramedics rushed to the area and pronounced the man dead from his injuries. His identity was not immediately available.
The driver of the F-150 was not hurt.
Officials shut down the far right lane of southbound 5 Freeway until around 8:30 a.m.
