Rider Fatally Injured in Santa Maria Big-Rig Collision on North Broadway
SANTA MARIA, CA (June 17, 2019) – A motorcyclist died after a big-rig collision on North Broadway in Santa Maria on Saturday, June 15.
According to police Lt. Russ Mengel, the crash between a motorcycle and a big rig occurred on North Broadway near Preisker Lane and Highway 101. At around 1:35 p.m., personnel from the Santa Maria Police and Fire departments responded to the scene.
The motorcyclist died at the scene.
An eyewitness stated that the motorcyclist was a man. He wore a helmet at the time of the incident and may have been speeding.
The motorcyclist’s identity was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the big-rig was not harmed.
The fatal crash temporarily shut down the North Broadway intersection to Highway 101 in both directions for several hours.
Members of the Police Department’s Traffic Bureau rushed to the crash site to investigate the collision.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
