Hit-and-Run Collision on Highway 58 Injures Santa Margarita Motorcyclist
SANTA MARGARITA, CA (September 14, 2019) — A female biker suffered major injuries in a hit-and-run collision on Highway 58 Wednesday morning.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the incident occurred near the Santa Margarita Cemetery at 9:00 a.m.
A Dodge Dually flatbed truck tried to pass two dump trucks at a curve on the road. However, the driver couldn’t get the truck back in its lane. As a result, it struck a motorcyclist that was traveling in the opposite direction.
The force of the impact ejected the rider from her bike. First responders took her to the hospital with major injuries. The authorities identified the rider as a 34-year-old woman from Santa Margarita.
On the other hand, the Paso Robles man driving the Dodge did not stop nor return to the scene of the crash. However, the officers were able to identify him later in the day. They subsequently questioned him at his Paso Robles home.
The officers did not arrest the Dodge driver, but the district attorney’s office could still charge him according to them.
Motorcyclists are at a great risk, so it is important you are aware of them on the road. Always make sure it is safe to make a lane change. Scanning the streets, the next lane over, and using your mirrors can help you be more aware. Avoid accidents at all costs by driving defensively.
