Motorcyclist Killed in Fremont Hit-and-Run Crash
FREMONT, CA (June 20, 2019) — A motorcyclist died in a hit-and-run crash on Highway 680 at Mission Boulevard early Wednesday morning.
Officials said the fatal crash occurred on southbound Highway 680 off-ramp to Mission Boulevard at around 5:25 a.m. They only identified the victim as a man in his 20s from San Jose. His motorcycle crashed into a car that made a left-hand turn in front of him at Mission Boulevard and Brown Road.
Emergency responders took the motorcyclist to a trauma center where he later died.
The police said the car’s driver and possibly a passenger fled on foot after the crash. However, the clues they left inside the car led the officers to their destination which is Motel 6. The place is less than half a mile from the crash site.
The officers found two individuals in the motel rooms, including the person the vehicle was registered to. They detained both people for questioning. The investigators are also determining who was driving the car at the time of the crash.
The driver could face charges of vehicular homicide according to the police. They said the fact that the driver ran away doesn’t bode well for leniency. However, the District Attorney will ultimately decide on the charges.
An investigation is underway to determine whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. The crash prompted the closure of Mission Boulevard until about 12:00 p.m.
