Fatality in Collision Near Vandenberg Space Force Base
Santa Barbara County, CA (July 28, 2022) – On Thursday, a motorcycle rider sustained fatal injuries in Highway 1 head-on crash.
It was about 7:40 a.m. when the incident took place near Firefighter Road, close to Vandenberg Space Force Base.
According to the investigators, a 21-year-old Santa Maria woman was driving a northbound Yukon. She crossed into the southbound lanes and struck a motorcyclist head-on.
As a result, the motorcycle was thrown into the other southbound lane where it was struck by another vehicle. Similarly, the motorcycle rider was ejected from the motorcycle and died at the crash scene.
Officers added that two other drivers of southbound vehicles saw the Yukon driving the wrong way. So, they drove into the center median to avoid a possible accident.
Because of this, one of the vehicles sustained damage after being struck by debris from the initial crash. Then, the other vehicle incurred some damage from driving into the center median.
Those two drivers stayed at the crash scene.
Moreover, the paramedics rushed the Yukon driver to the hospital with minor injuries.
The authorities say drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the fatal collision. Apparently, no arrests were made.
In the meantime, officers withheld the deceased’s identity pending notification of kin.
