Rider Killed in Long Beach Collision
LONG BEACH, CA (December 17, 2018) – A motorcycle rider sustained fatal injuries following a multi-vehicle crash on Thursday, December 13.
According to the police, the crash occurred on Ocean Boulevard and the Terminal Island Freeway when a motorcyclist died in an accident involving three vehicles at around 7:45 p.m.
Investigators believe that the motorcyclist struck the back of a vehicle, Long Beach police spokesman Sgt. Vince Otto said. The rider may have been traveling at a high rate of speed when he crashed with an Acura that was moving in the same direction.
The crash ejected the motorcyclist into one of the westbound lanes of traffic where he appeared to be struck by two other different westbound vehicles, according to the police said.
Both the westbound motorists drove away and left the scene. The two vehicles that fled are described as a silver pickup truck and dark-colored vehicle—possibly an SUV
The police stated that the motorcyclist, a 58-year-old man of Huntington Beach, was found lying in the roadway and was later pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. His identity was not immediately released, pending notification of his next of kin.
The first motorist, a 33-year-old woman of Long Beach, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Detectives are still trying to collect more information on the drivers who fled, Otto said. Alcohol and drugs were not believed to be factors in the collision with the first driver.
