Police Investigate Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash on Phelan Road 

Phelan, CA (October 6, 2023) – Thursday night, a 42-year-old resident of Hesperia died in a hit-and-run crash on Phelan Road.

 CHP and San Bernardino County Fire responded to reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash at 10:23 p.m., October 5.

Upon arrival, first responders discovered a motorcycle, a 2000 Yamaha XVS 1100, in the westbound lane of Phelan Road, west of Verbena Road, and the body of the driver in the center of the westbound lane of Phelan Road, east of Verbena Road. The male driver, a 42-year-old Hesperia resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to CHP records, the driver was hit by a car involved in the accident, possibly a BMW, and thrown across the road before leaving the scene.

A white 2021 Honda Pilot driven by a 42-year-old Phelan resident also struck the driver while he was on the ground. The Honda driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officers.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that the Yamaha was traveling westbound on Phelan Road east of Coleridge Road at an undetermined speed when an unknown vehicle, also traveling westbound at a high rate of speed, crashed into the rear of the Yamaha,” according to the CHP news release.

“My son was killed last night by a hit-and-run driver, possibly a BMW. My son was on a motorcycle and was rear-ended and thrown 150 feet, and then hit by another car which stopped to render aid, but it was too late. Hug your loved ones. You never know when it will be the last time,” stated the victim’s mother.
