Hit-and-Run Crash on 80 Freeway in Richmond Sends Rider and Passenger to Hospital
RICHMOND, CA (November 25, 2019) – A motorcyclist and a passenger were seriously injured following a hit-and-run crash Monday morning in Richmond.
The crash happened just after 7:00 a.m. on westbound 80 Freeway at Central Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a male rider and a female passenger were splitting lanes on the freeway at about 35 mph when a white Toyota Prius changed lanes suddenly in front of them.
The motorcycle swerved right and crashed into the back of a white Toyota Tundra pickup truck. The impact sent both the rider and passenger into the roadway.
Seconds later, a truck with a trailer hit the two, then drove away without stopping, the CHP said.
Albany firefighters responded to the scene, providing emergency care before taking the two to an area hospital with major injuries. The patients’ conditions were not immediately available late Monday.
Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be factors in the crash. Anyone with information should call the CHP’s Oakland bureau at 510-450-3821.
