Woman and Toddler Hospitalized after Pedestrian Crash at Oakland Charter Academy Middle School
OAKLAND, CA (August 10, 2018) – A woman and her son were injured late Friday morning after a vehicle ran off the road and crashed into a school fence on Foothill Boulevard.
According to police, the incident took place at about 10:42 AM at 4215 Foothill Boulevard, site of Oakland Charter Academy Middle School. A Toyota pickup truck was traveling eastbound when it veered out of control, jumped a curb, and struck the victims.
The Oakland Fire Department arrived at the scene and found the victims trapped underneath the vehicle. After they were freed from the wreckage, the mother and her 2-year-old child were transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries. No one on the school grounds was hurt, according to the school.
Witnesses claimed that the pickup driver may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash. An investigation is ongoing to verify the statement and to determine the cause of the collision. Additional information regarding this incident has not yet been provided to the public at this time.
