School District Truck Crashes into Car With Baby on Board on Avocado Boulevard
LA MESA, CA (October 4, 2019) – A mother and an infant were hospitalized following a head-on crash Friday morning in La Mesa, CHP officials said.
The crash happened around 10:30 a.m. on Avocado Boulevard, just north of Challenge Boulevard.
According to the CHP, a 55-year-old Cajon Valley School District worker was driving a Ford pickup with a trailer. He made a unsafe left turn movement into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a 2011 Ford Fusion, driven by 23-year-old El Cajon woman who was traveling with a female infant in a child safety seat.
The impact sent both vehicles into the front yard of a home, causing a tree to topple onto the house. The homeowner was not at the house at the time of the crash.
CHP officials said the child safety seat had not been properly installed. As a result, the seat to fall facedown on the car’s floorboards upon impact.
Paramedics took the woman and the child to a trauma center for treatment. Both drivers sustained major but non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash and factors involved.
