Santa Fe, NM (October 16, 2024) – 43-year-old mother, Monique Maes died in a hit-and-run crash on Paseo de Nopal.
A 43-year-old mother lost her life after being struck by a vehicle while walking with her children, which then fled the scene, according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Tuesday when Monique Maes and her two children, ages 8 and 12, were walking along Paseo de Nopal.
All three were taken to the hospital, where the children were treated for minor injuries and released the same day.
Maes succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday night, as confirmed by the sheriff’s office.
Deputies later discovered a vehicle they believe was involved in the hit-and-run, parked near Paseo de La Tierra and Estrada Calabasa. The white 2005 Chevy Equinox, which had front-end damage, matched the description of the car reportedly seen fleeing the scene.
