1 Dead and 1 Injured in Calaveras Car Accident on Highway 12
CALAVERAS, CA (October 10, 2019) – A 39-year-old female Avery resident died while a 4-year-old passenger sustained injuries in a car accident.
The two-car collision occurred on October 4 on Highway 12 near Burson. Calaveras County Coroner Kevin Raggio identified the woman as Molly Jean Collins.
According to reports, Molly Jean Collins made a left turn onto eastbound Highway 12 from a private driveway, east of Haskell Street. Collins then drove her Acura sedan into the path of an approaching vehicle. As a result, the other driver, 47-year-old Mitchell McGee of Valley Springs in a Ford pickup truck hit Collins’ driver’s side at 50-55 mph.
The collision sent the two vehicles off the road. Molly Jean Collins died at the scene. Meanwhile, Collins’ four-year-old passenger went to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
McGee didn’t suffer any injury. Authorities ruled out drugs and alcohol as a factor in the crash which remains under investigation.
