Two Dead and One Injured in Suspected Street Racing Crash in Los Nietos
WHITTIER, CA (May 2, 2018) – A violent head-on collision on a street in Los Nietos involving three vehicles claimed the life of two men and hospitalized another, early Wednesday morning.
The deceased victims were later identified as 28-year-old Moises Duran and 30-year-old Christopher Rivera.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at around 4:22 AM at the intersection of Slauson and Boer Avenues. A Ford Fusion, boarded by Duran and Rivera, was traveling at a high rate of speed when it veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a Chevrolet Avalanche and another Chevrolet pickup truck.
The impact of the collision caused for the Avalanche to overturn and come to a rest on its roof. The second pickup truck swerved off the road and stopped in a sidewalk. Authorities found the Fusion split in half, with Duran and Rivera unconscious inside. A third person sustained minor to moderate injuries and was sent to a hospital for treatment.
Investigators believe that an additional vehicle might be involved in the collision that is suspected to be a result of street racing. They described the vehicle they saw speeding alongside the Fusion as a silver or gray BMW. In addition, affected areas on Slauson Avenue were shut down to continue the investigation and to clean up the remnants of the collision.
There is no additional information available at this time.
We extend our sincerest sympathies to the family and friends of Moises Duran and Christopher Rivera. May they rest in peace.
