Modesto Man Dies, Other Driver Hospitalized after Head-On Crash on Santa Fe Avenue in Turlock

Turlock, CA (September 16, 2021) – Thursday morning, a  63-year-old died and a 48-year-old man, both from Modesto, sustained severe injuries in a head-on crash on Santa Fe Avenue.

The fatal head-on crash happened at 6:30 a.m. on September 16, about a half-mile south of Monte Vista Avenue.

The CHP said the driver of a Subaru SUV traveling north tried to pass the vehicle in front of him. The Subaru collided head-on with a Toyota sedan traveling south; the force pushed it backward then a Nissan SUV behind the Toyota rear-ended it. 

EMS took the Subaru driver to Emanuel Medical Center, where he died.  The driver of the Toyota suffered major leg injuries and was taken to the Doctors Medical Center. 

Meanwhile, the driver of the Nissan, a 48-year-old Modesto resident, remained uninjured.

The CHP added that the crash occurred in a legal passing zone. It is still unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.

Further investigation into this fatal incident is ongoing.
