29-Year-Old Vista Woman Dies after Crash on 15 Freeway near 78 Freeway
ESCONDIDO, CA (December 23, 2019) – A woman died in a three-vehicle crash Monday morning on a rain-slick freeway in Escondido.
The crash happened around 8:00 a.m. on 15 Freeway near 78 Freeway.
According to reports, a Ford Ranger pickup truck traveled on the transition ramp when it spun out and veered to the left across freeway lanes. After that, it struck on the passenger side by a big rig and subsequently hit by a Toyota 4Runner.
As a result, the driver of the pickup suffered serious injuries. Paramedics transported her to Palomar Medical Center, where she was admitted to the intensive care unit. She died at the hospital at 10:12 p.m. Thursday.
Authorities identified the victim as Misti Dawn Vaughn, 29, of Vista.
The big rig driver, a 50-year-old Murrieta man, and the Toyota driver, a 19-year-old Santee woman, both remained at the scene and were unhurt, according to the CHP.
Drugs or alcohol were not believed to have been factors in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
