Pleasanton Man Dies after Crash with Train at Junction Avenue and Old First Street
LIVERMORE, CA (July 22, 2019) – A man was killed after his car collided with a train Monday morning in Livermore, according to authorities.
The crash happened just before 8:00 a.m., on Junction Avenue near Old First Street.
According to reports, a white sedan went around the crossing guardrails before attempting to cross the tracks. There, it was eventually rear-ended by an Altamont Corridor Express Train. The impact also caused the vehicle’s driver’s side to slam into a nearby power pole as a result.
Furthermore, the driver was the sole occupant inside the vehicle. He was later pronounced dead at the scene due to the extent of his injuries. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office later identified the victim as Minseok Bu, 20, of Pleasanton.
Passengers inside the train remained uninjured. However, service was delayed for 88 minutes until customers could be transferred.
The surrounding area was closed off for a brief time while crews worked on preliminary investigation. However, the roadway has since reopened.
Investigators currently believe that the guardrails along the tracks were down and crossing lights were flashing at the time of the crash.
We hope the family and friends of Minseok Bu are surrounded by steadfast and comforting support as they grieve for the loss of their loved one during this difficult time.
