71-Year-Old Man Fatally Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver on Highway 74
HOMELAND, CA (August 2, 2019) – A man died in a pedestrian crash early Friday morning in the unincorporated Homeland area.
The man has been identified as Miton Horkey, 71, of Homeland. Officials pronounced him dead at the scene.
Firefighters responded around 3:30 a.m. in the 31000 block of Highway 74. After that, they located Horkey lying in the roadway with fatal injuries, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
It was unclear if Horkey was in a crosswalk or had been within the lanes of traffic when he was fatally struck by a white pickup truck, possibly a commercial or work truck.
The responsible driver did not stop after the crash.
CHP is looking for witnesses and hoping the involved driver will show up at a local body shop to have their damaged truck repaired.
During this time of tragedy, we would like to extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to the family and friends of Milton Horkey.
