22-Year-Old Woman Fatally Injured in Accident on Her Birthday in La Jolla Village Shopping Center
LA JOLLA, CA (April 17, 2018) – A young woman was struck and killed by a large armored truck on her 22nd birthday, early Tuesday evening.
According to reports, 22-year-old Mikaela Jones had just parked her car in the parking lot at the La Jolla Village Shopping Center, and was walking towards her boyfriend when she was hit around 5PM. The driver of the armored truck remained at the scene and cooperated with the police.
Witnesses called 911 and Jones was taken to the Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla. Despite resuscitation efforts, she was pronounced dead at 6:30 PM.
The San Diego Police Department’s traffic division continues to investigate the fatal collision. Alcohol is not suspected to be a contributing factor at this time. No additional information has been disclosed at this time.
