3 Men Dead in Head-On Collision on Valley Center Road near North Lake Wohlford Road

VALLEY CENTER, CA (February 12, 2019) – Authorities publicly identified the three Escondido men who were killed in a head-on crash Tuesday morning in Valley Center.

Miguel Angel Saravia, 44, Carlos Bravo Serrano, 30, and Cesar Daniel Nino, 22, were occupants in a Ford F-150 and died at the scene of the crash, which happened around 6:15 a.m. on Valley Center Road, between North Lake Wohlford Road and Paradise Creek Lane.

The Ford pickup truck, driven by Saravia, was heading southbound when he passed another vehicle and collided head-on with a tow truck that was traveling northbound on Valley Center Road, the Medical Examiner’s Office reported.

All three men were not wearing their seat belts, according to the CHP.

A fourth man, who had been riding in the front passenger seat of the Ford, left the scene and was later found at a relative’s house in Escondido. The man, later identified as Saravia’s brother, told officers he left the crash scene because he did not have his cell phone. He was unharmed.

The tow truck driver was injured and taken by paramedics to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido.

It was unknown if speed, drugs and/or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash, though authorities found beer cans and bottles that had spilled their contents inside the crumpled pickup truck. That discovery was inconclusive, since the containers could have burst open during the collision.

The fatal crash remains under investigation.

Our condolences remain with the loved ones and friends of Miguel Saravia, Caros Serrano and Cesar Nino. We hope they are brought peace and comfort at this time.
