Pedestrian Dead after Hit-And-Run Crash on Winter Palm Drive in Tucson

Tucson, AZ (January 17, 2024) – On Wednesday, 56-year-old Miguel Martinez Mendoza died in a hit-and-run crash on Winter Palm Drive.

The incident occurred on the night of Saturday, Dec. 30, and resulted in the death of 56-year-old Miguel Martinez Mendoza. 

Detectives report that Mendoza was crossing Escalante Road, either within or close to a marked crosswalk at Winter Palm Drive, when a black 2013 or 2014 Nissan Altima likely struck him. 

After receiving medical assistance on the scene, emergency services transported him to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, Jan. 17. 

At the time of the accident, all streetlights in the vicinity were operational and illuminated. 

Tucson Police Department (TPD) urges anyone with information to contact them at 88-CRIME, assuring confidentiality for anonymous tips. 

Detectives suspect that the black 2013 or 2014 Nissan Altima involved may have sustained damage to the front passenger side or the windshield.
