Driver Flees After Fatal Hit-and-Run in Escondido
Escondido, CA (September 18, 2024) On Tuesday morning, 58-year-old Miguel Leonides Garcia was fatally struck in a pedestrian hit-and-run crash on Broadway.
According to the Escondido Police Department, the fatal hit-and-run happened on Broadway and Mission Avenue just after 6 a.m.
Reports say that a white “off-road style” SUV hit Garcia while the pedestrian was crossing the street.
After the collision, the driver, whose vehicle had a large spare tire and red jack attached to the rear, fled the scene, heading north on Broadway and then east on Lincoln Avenue.
Paramedics transported Garcia, an Escondido resident, to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities are continuing their search for the driver.
