Injuries Reported in Santa Barbara Hit-and-Run Crash on Anacapa Street

 
SANTA BARBARA, CA (August 9, 2021) – Saturday night, authorities arrested Miguel Gonzalez after a bicycle accident on Anacapa Street.
 
The injury hit-and-run crash occurred at around 6:00 p.m. According to reports, it happened near Anacapa Street and Ortega Street intersection.
 
“Officers learned a maroon pickup truck was traveling south in the 600 block of Anacapa Street when the driver rear-ended a 14-year-old juvenile bicyclist who was also going south on Anacapa Street,” Sgt. Ethan Ragsdale said.
 
Ragsdale confirmed that the 14-year-old rider was ejected from the bicycle. Then, the rider rolled under the truck and was dragged around 20 feet.
 
Officers confirmed that the 23-year-old pickup driver, Miguel Angel Gonzalez, didn’t stop and continued driving.
 
Thus, several witnesses chased him and provided the police a vehicle description and license plate number.
 
Ragsdale confirmed that officers found the suspect vehicle parked near Alisos and East De la Guerra streets on the Lower Eastside. The vehicle had fresh damage on the front bumper consistent with a bicycle crash.
 
They found Gonzalez asleep in the garage of an East Ortega Street residence. Also, he showed signs of alcohol intoxication.
 
Thus, the authorities conducted field sobriety tests which confirmed that Gonzalez was under the influence.
 
The authorities booked Gonzalez into Santa Barbara County Jail. He’s been charged on suspicion of felony hit and run with injury and driving under the influence causing injury.
 
By Sunday afternoon, he stayed in custody with bail set at $100,000.
 
On the other hand, the bicyclist was taken by American Medical Response ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with moderate injuries.
