SUV and Tractor Crash in El Centro Ends in Major Injuries
EL CENTRO, CA (May 6, 2019) – A man was airlifted with major injuries following a tractor crash early Monday morning in El Centro.
At approximately 3:57 a.m., California Highway Patrol responded to a report of a collision between a silver Toyota 4Runner and a John Deere Tractor at Evan Hewes Highway and Bowker Road.
According to the report, the SUV rear-ended the tractor that was heading eastbound on Evan Hewes Highway.
The driver of the Toyota, 34-year-old Micky Terribilini of Holtville, was able to exit his vehicle and remained on the roadway. He suffered a broken leg and complained of pain to the left side of his chest.
Responding emergency personnel stabilized him before Reach Air ambulance airlifted him to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs.
The driver of the tractor, 21-year-old Ruben Espinoza of Calexico, was not injured.
Evan Hewes Highway was closed in both directions for about 30 minutes to allow the air ambulance to land.
Intoxication is not being ruled out as a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
If you find yourself driving behind a slow-moving tractor, be patient. Make sure you have enough clearance to pass the vehicle safely. Also give them a little bit of time to move over if they are on the roadway.
