53-Year-Old Woman Dead and One Injured in Crash on North Division Street and Cozza Drive
SPOKANE, WA (January 16, 2018) – Around 5:30 PM on Friday night, a fatal crash was reported on North Division Street and Cozza Drive near Costco.
According to reports, an adult male was jaywalking on Division St and made it mid-way, when he was struck by a southbound vehicle. A woman who had witnessed the accident went into the road to assist the injured man.
While aiding the man, both people were hit by a second car that was traveling southbound. The man sustain critical injuries and the woman was pronounced dead on the scene. The female victim was identified by the Spokane County Medical Examiner as 53-year-old Michele Renee Purkey. She suffered severe head injuries including skull fractures and brain lacerations due to the impact of the crash. The man was transferred to a local hospital in critical condition.
North Division St was closed off for about 5 hours while authorities investigated and conducted interviews. Both drivers remained at the scene and cooperated with officials. At this time, no citations or arrests have been made.
