8 Victims Injured in DUI Accident on Vivian Road
MODESTO, CA (March 31, 2019) – Eight people were injured following a DUI crash Sunday afternoon in Modesto. Two of which were left in critical condition.
Dispatchers received calls about the collision around 1:30 p.m. First responders arrived at the intersection of West Grayson and Vivian Road shortly after.
According to the CHP, a 23-year-old Usbaldo Santos Estrada of Patterson was driving a green 1994 Mazda B4000 northbound on Vivian Road. Meanwhile, Michel Medina, 29, of Modesto, was driving a black 2008 Saturn Outlook on West Grayson, just east of Vivian Road.
To begin, Estrada allegedly ran the stop sign and struck the driver’s side of the Saturn. The Mazda consequently overturned, while the Saturn propelled off the roadway and into metal fencing as a result of the impact.
Medina was badly injured and taken to Turlock’s Emanuel Medical Center. Two toddlers in her vehicle, a 3-year-old Hugo Medina and a 2-year-old Adrian Medina, both sustained minor injuries. Hugo was sent to Emanuel Medical Center, while Adrian was airlifted to the children’s hospital at UC Davis Medical Center.
Furthermore, a female passenger in the Mazda pickup, Reyna Zamora, 18, of Patterson, suffered major injuries. She was quickly transported to Doctors Medical Center for further treatment.
Three other passengers in the Mazda, a 29-year-old Ricardo Ordaz of Hughson, a 26-year-old and Ashley Garcia of Waterford, and Claudia Hernandez, 18, of Patterson, sustained minor injuries. Ordaz and Garcia were also taken to Memorial Medical Center, while Hernandez was taken to DMC.
Moreover, Estrada was also hospitalized with minor injuries. He was consequently placed under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence. In addition to DUI, charges also included possessing an assault weapon.
Investigation of this incident is still currently ongoing. More details will eventually be released once available.
