Finnuala Hanifan Suspected of DUI that Killed Sister in Napa Crash
NAPA, CA (June 23, 2019) – A female passenger was killed following a DUI crash Sunday evening on Atlas Peak Road in Napa.
The victim was identified Monday afternoon by the Napa County Coroner’s office as Michaella Margret Hanifan, 18, of Todd, North Carolina.
The crash happened around 10:45 p.m., just South of Hardman Avenue near Silverado Resort and Spa.
The CHP said a 21-year-old Finnuala Hanifan of San Francisco was driving a borrowed 2018 Porsche at a high rate of speed southbound when she lost control. Her car left the west edge of the roadway and crashed into an irrigation culvert.
The Porshe continued south and struck two wooden poles and a traffic signal. It then overturned and stopped on the west shoulder of Atlas Peak Road, according to the CHP.
Finnuala suffered major injuries and was flown to Kaiser Permanente Vacaville Medical Center.
Her sister, Michaella, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both women were wearing seat belts and the car’s airbags deployed.
The women were returning to the nearby Silverado Country Club and Spa and had borrowed a friend’s Porsche, the CHP said.
Finnuala is suspected of DUI.
The crash knocked out power to 871 PG&E customers. By 11 a.m. Monday, all but 130 customers had their power restored.
Atlas Peak Road remained closed Monday morning between McKinley Road and Hardman Avenue, according to Napa County Public Works.
Investigation of this crash is still ongoing.
Our deepest condolences and sympathies are with the loved ones and friends of Michaella Hanifan.
