Michael Thomas Killed in Newark Motorcycle Accident
Newark, CA (September 17, 2020) – On Sunday, 40-year-old Michael Thomas of Palo Alto died in a motorcycle crash in the eastbound lanes of Highway 84.
The fatal crash took place at about 2:20 a.m. near Thornton Avenue, east of the Dumbarton Bridge toll plaza.
California Highway Patrol said the victim’s motorcycle was struck from behind by a BMW sedan, driven by a driver suspected of DUI.
Newark authorities pronounced Thomas dead at the scene. Meanwhile, another person on the motorcycle sustained injuries and was taken to a hospital. The injured person’s current condition is not available.
CHP Officer Dustin Kennerly said the authorities located the BMW nearby and the male driver arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Meanwhile, whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs or both has not been released.
