Michael Peczynski Dead and 1 Injured After Crash on 40th Street and Cactus Road in Phoenix

Phoenix, AZ (May 6, 2024) – On Monday morning, 70-year-old Michael Peczynski died, and one person sustained injuries in a crash on 40th Street and Cactus Road.

Police reported that a man died after he failed to stop for a red light and crashed into a car at a busy north Phoenix intersection on Monday morning, causing major delays during rush hour.

The crash occurred just before 7 a.m. Peczynski was driving west on Cactus Road when he ran the red light and slammed into a four-door car traveling south on 40th Street. 

His SUV ended up on its roof, and he died at the scene. 

Emergency responders rushed the other driver to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but doctors later stabilized him, according to police. 

The intersection was closed in all directions for about five hours before reopening just after noon. 

It remains unclear if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash. 

An investigation is ongoing.
