Joshua Sanders Arrested in Fatal DUI Crash at Patterson and Oakdale Roads
RIVERBANK, CA (December 20, 2019) – A man was killed following a DUI crash Friday evening at an intersection in Riverbank.
The fatal crash happened around 10:20 p.m. at Patterson and Oakdale roads.
According to reports, a 30-year-old Joshua Timothy Sanders was already being tracked by police Friday for a separate hit-and-run incident. Police say a helicopter spotted him leaving Nino’s Place in Modesto, but before they could get to him, he had run the red-light and crashed into two vehicles.
As a result, one person died at the scene. The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 54-year-old Michael Knittel.
Paramedics also transported two others to a hospital with severe injuries.
Police arrested Sanders at the scene. Sanders remained in custody Monday morning. He faces charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury. His bail is set at $125,000.
This fatal incident is still under investigation.
