Michael Kennedy Arrested after Crashing into Apartment Complex in Sacramento
SACRAMENTO, CA (January 29, 2019) – A 35-year-old driver was arrested early Friday morning after crashing into an apartment complex following a police chase at an intersection in North Sacramento.
According to the police, 35-year-old Michael Kennedy continued driving when the Sacramento police tried to stop him for reckless driving around 2:30 a.m. Friday. This sent officers into a short pursuit which ended when Kennedy’s Ford Mustang crashed into an apartment complex at the intersection of Arcade Boulevard and Branch Street in North Sacramento, causing damage to four parked cars.
Officers said that the suspect stopped, put his Mustang in reverse, and intentionally crashed into the bumper of one officer’s patrol car. He continued driving and crashed into the parked vehicles.
Stephanie Marino, a resident in the apartment complex and a mother of three, said she was shocked when she heard the noise from the crash. She said there was too much damage after the incident.
Bryan Whited, whose vehicle was also damaged, said the suspect just made a mess of things. “I mean, he hurt us. He just really hurt us all,” he said.
Kennedy faces several charges including evading police, resisting arrest, and vandalism.
Doing traffic stops is an important part of a law enforcement officer’s duty to serve and protect the community. Sometimes, it can be a stressful situation for both the driver and the officer, but through good communication and cooperation, a traffic stop can be a positive experience for everyone. It is important to remain calm when an officer is attempting to pull you over. Find the nearest and safest area to pull over and park your car. Stay in the vehicle until further instructions are received from the officer.
