15-Year-Old Redding Skateboarder Hospitalized after Crash on Placer Street
REDDING, CA (June 3, 2018) – A young man was hospitalized early Sunday evening after he was struck by a vehicle on Continental Street. 15-year-old Michael Janda of Redding was on his skateboard when the incident happened.
According to Redding Police, the collision took place just before 5:10 PM at the intersection of Placer Road and Continental Street. Janda was heading east on Placer, quickly approaching Continental down a large hill.
At the same time, a vehicle, driven by 30-year-old Sarah Allpress of Redding, was traveling north on Continental entering the intersection with Placer. The two collided. The impact of the collision threw Janda, who was not wearing a helmet, onto the ground. The young skateboarder sustained major injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment and evaluation. No other injuries were reported in the incident.
Authorities ruled out drugs and alcohol as possible factors in the collision. It was determined that Janda entered the intersection against a red light, and investigators are attempting to confirm if it was an intentional act.
