Speeding Car Crashes into Tree on 80 Freeway near Blue Canyon Killing the Driver
GOLD RUN, CA (December 30, 2019) – A man was killed in a high-speed crash Monday afternoon in Placer County.
The crash happened just before 1:00 p.m. on 80 Freeway near Blue Canyon.
According to the CHP, a silver 2005 Infiniti Coupe was traveling at high speeds, using all lanes and the center median to pass traffic on eastbound 80 Freeway. The driver was in the median when he lost control due to the sand and went off the roadway. The car then struck an embankment and a tree.
Firefighters responded to the scene and found the vehicle with major damage. They extricated the driver from the car and pronounced him dead at the scene.
Authorities identified the man as Michael Holderbein, 39, of Placerville. Holderbein died of multiple blunt force injuries.
The crash slowed traffic for about three hours.
Officials said DUI does not appear to be a factor. Further investigation is underway.
No words can mend the broken hearts and sorrow felt during this delicate moment. Our deepest condolences and sympathies are with the family and friends of Michael Holderbein.
