Man Fatally Struck by Vehicle on Highway 178 in Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, CA (January 2, 2020) – A man died in a pedestrian crash Thursday evening in Bakersfield, according to the CHP.
The crash happened around 7:50 p.m. on westbound Highway 178 near Haley Street.
CHP officials said the man was struck by a vehicle for unknown reasons. The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Michael Magellan Hanash, 41, of Bakersfield.
Officials temporarily closed a portion of Highway 178 while they investigated the incident.
It is unknown if drugs, alcohol or speed played a role in the crash.
