Michael Dougherty of Escondido Dies in Vehicle Crash on Encinitas Boulevard [Encinitas, CA]

Encinitas, CA (November  08, 2021) – On Thursday, 63-year-old Michael Dougherty of Escondido lost his life in a vehicle crash on Encinitas Boulevard.

It was about 7 p.m. when the deadly incident took place in the 900 block area.

Officers said Dougherty exited an apartment complex in a 2007 Toyota Corrolla. 

He stopped in the southbound lane of the road and a Toyota Tacoma struck his vehicle.

The Toyota Tacoma struck the driver’s side door. Then, the vehicles slid to the opposing side of the street and rested at the curb.

Unfortunately, Dougherty was trapped in his vehicle and died at the scene.

Officers said there were no other injuries involved in the crash.

The San Diego Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the cause of the crash. They said drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the incident.
