4-Year-Old Mia Preston Dies After Crash on Combs Road in San Tan Valley

San Tan Valley, AZ (February 26, 2024) – On Friday evening, a 4-year-old child, Mia Preston, died in a vehicle crash on Combs Road and Painted Desert Drive.

The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office rushed to a home near Combs Road and Painted Desert Drive on Friday evening after receiving reports of a vehicle hitting a child.

Authorities took the child to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The family told ABC15 that their daughter, 4-year-old Mia Preston, whom they called their “beautiful miracle,” was the child involved.

In 2022, ABC15 interviewed the Preston family following a near-fatal incident involving Mia. During a visit to family in San Diego, Mia’s father discovered her floating in a swimming pool, immediately pulled her from the water, and dialed 911. 

Despite Mia spending 20 minutes underwater and receiving CPR, her doctors detected no permanent brain damage.

Mia underwent a seven-day intensive care unit stay, followed by three days of rehabilitation for a full recovery. 

Remarkably, just two months later, she had returned home and was swimming once again.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the family with funeral expenses.

PCSO is actively investigating the crash that occurred on Friday and has yet to release further details. The investigation is ongoing.
