MENDOCINO, CA – Five People Killed after Vehicle Plunges Off Cliff along Pacific Coast Highway

Jennifer Jean Hart and Sarah Margaret Hart ID’ed in Fatal Crash on Highway 1

MENDOCINO, CA (March 26, 2018) – Five people, including three children and two women, died after their vehicle plunged off a cliff along the scene Pacific Coast Highway in Northern California, Monday afternoon.

The authorities received a report about the wreckage at around 3:40 PM off mile marker 82.9 of Highway 1 in the Westport area.

According to initial reports, a 2003 GMC Sierra Truck was traveling south along PCH when it pulled into a dirt turnout and continued to drive off the 100-foot cliff. The SUV landed on its roof on a large rock in the water.

The two women inside of the car were identified as 39-year-old Jennifer Jean Hart of West Linn, Oregan, and 39-year-old Sarah Margaret Hart from Alexandria, Minnesota. Names of the deceased children have not yet been released to the public.

Firefighters and a two-man helicopter cooperated for the retrieval operations, that took nearly three hours to complete. At 6 PM, the bodies of the three children were successfully airlifted while the bodies of the two adults remained inside the wrecked car. A tow truck arrived at the scene to retrieve the vehicle back to land.

Drugs, alcohol, and bad weather were not considered as factors in the case. Investigators are still unsure about the cause of the fatal incident. But in-depth investigations and autopsies are hoped to give answers. No other information is released at the time.
