Kevin Dougherty Arrested in Suspected DUI Crash on East of Highway 59

Merced, CA (June 14, 2022) – On May 31, Melvin Pryor, 57, died while officers arrested Kevin Dougherty, 57, of Snelling, in a suspected DUI crash on Merced Falls Road.

It was before 8:25 p.m. when the fatal collision took place east of Highway 59. 

According to the authorities, Pryor was riding a westbound 2000 custom motorcycle. At the same time, Dougherty was driving an eastbound  2015 Jeep Cherokee.

As the vehicles approached each other, Dougherty tried to turn left into a private driveway into the path of Pryor’s motorcycle.

As a result, the vehicles collided head-on.

Melvin Pryor was trapped beneath Dougherty’s Jeep and sustained major injuries. The paramedics airlifted him to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto where he succumbed to his injuries on June 1. 

The authorities believe Kevin Dougherty was under the influence of narcotics during the collision. They arrested him on suspicion of felony driving under the influence causing bodily injury. 

Dougherty nor his 40-year-old male passenger sustained injuries in the collision.
