Ivan Dimov Arrested after Chase Ends in Fatal Five-Vehicle Crash near I Street
SACRAMENTO, CA (December 24, 2018) – A man was killed early Monday morning following a DUI crash near I Street. The victim was later identified as 28-year-old Melvin Kwaun Strong, a resident of Vacaville.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 2:30 AM. A chase started near 15th Street when a suspected DUI driver attempted to evade the CHP officers.
As the fleeing driver approached 18th Street, his BMW ran through a stop sign and T-boned a westbound gray Infiniti. The BMW then crashed into a parked vehicle, pushing it into two more parked cars.
Strong, who was the sole occupant of the Infiniti, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead hours after the incident.
The driver of the BMW, identified as 41-year-old Ivan Dimov of Antelope, is currently in the hospital with major injuries. He was arrested on the scene for felony DUI, evading a police officer causing serious injury or death, and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence charges.
Additional information will be released to the public following the conclusion of the investigation.
