65-Year-Old Oakland Man Fatally Injured in Two-Vehicle Collision near Davis Street
SAN LEANDRO, CA (July 30, 2018) – A man was killed late Monday evening following a collision between two vehicles near Davis Street. The victim was later identified as 65-year-old Oakland resident Melvin Calloway Sr by the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office coroner’s division.
As per reports, the incident happened at about 10:55 PM in the 1000 block of San Leandro Boulevard. Police officers responded to the scene and found two wrecked vehicles with their drivers suffering injuries.
Firefighters and paramedics arrived at the scene to render aid to the injured drivers. Both of them were rushed to hospitals for treatment and medical evaluation. Unfortunately, Calloway succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by medical staff. The other driver is expected to recover from his non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities believe that the vehicles were involved in a head-on crash. However, events that led to the deadly collision are still unknown. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call San Leandro police at (510) 577-2740.
