Melissa Casarez Dies in Pedestrian Accident on Highway 97 [Omak, WA]

Omak, WA (December 14, 2021) – On Saturday, a  33-year old Yakima woman, Melissa Casarez, died, while 51-year-old Jose Murillo Figueroa of Okanogan, sustained injuries in a crash on Highway 97.

The collision happened a few minutes after 5 p.m.

Casarez was walking southbound on the shoulder of the highway the1998 Ford Escort driven by 32-year-old Robert Funston of Wenatchee struck her. 

Afterward, the 1996 Ford Explorer driven by Figueroa rear-ended Funston’s Escort.

Unfortunately, Casarez died at the accident scene.

On the other hand, the rescuers took Figueroa to Mid Valley Hospital with minor injuries. 

The authorities are investigating this fatal incident.
