Kelsey Knoll Arrested after Fatal Pedestrian Collision near Sacramento Avenue

 
SANTA CRUZ, CA (July 20, 2018) – A woman was killed Friday afternoon after she was struck by a vehicle near Sacramento Avenue.
 
According to the Santa Cruz Police Department, the deadly collision took place at about 3:25 PM on Modesto Avenue. A 1999 black Infiniti SUV was traveling westbound when it struck 23-year-old McKenzie Gilbert from behind.
 
The victim sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. The driver, later identified as 24-year-old Mount Herman resident, Kelsey Knoll, was located about a block away from the accident scene near Chico Avenue.
 
Based on witness statements and security footage, it was determined that the incident was an intentional act done by Knoll. The vehicle allegedly accelerated and drove onto the other side of the road where Gilbert was walking.
 
Knoll was later arrested on suspicion of murder with her bail set at $2.5 million. An investigation is ongoing to determine if the suspect was driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Investigators are also working on identifying other possible contributing factors in the crash, and the relationship between Gilbert and Knoll.
