Speeding Pickup Truck Crashes into Guardrail and Catches Fire on Highway 99 in McFarland, Driver Dead
MCFARLAND, CA (November 23, 2018) – A 30-year-old Shafter man was killed following a fiery crash late Friday evening in McFarland, CHP officials said.
The crash happened around 11:47 p.m. on Highway 99 at Perkins Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found the man dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released pending notification of his family members.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the man was driving a 2001 Ford F-150 southbound on the highway and was approaching the Perkins Avenue overcrossing at high speeds. He then made an unsafe turn and collided with a metal guardrail and a concrete bridge.
The vehicle then caught fire due to severe impact. Passersby attempted to take the man out of his vehicle but unsuccessful.
It is unknown if drugs and/or alcohol have played a role in the crash. The incident is still under investigation.
